Kovalainen concentrating on racing

16 April 2009

Heikki Kovalainen is looking to put the politics surrounding his McLaren aside as he prepares for the Chinese Grand Prix this weekend. The Finn has completed just one racing lap so far this year, having been involved in first lap incidents in both the Australian and Malaysian Grands Prix.

"I think there are many positives from these races apart from the actual race day," the Finn said in China. "It has been pretty poor, both race days, but I feel I am getting more out of the team; I work better throughout the whole weekend with the team and, in fact, the base has been pretty promising. I am over those disappointments now, and I just move on and will try to complete the weekend with a good Sunday as well."

Despite below par performances on-track, as the team looks to improve its aerodynamics package, McLaren have once against found themselves at the epicentre of a controversial matter, with Lewis Hamilton being disqualified in Australia and team manager Dave Ryan sacked having presented race stewards with false information. "If you look at the circumstances, it could be a kind of time to bring the team down but I think everyone has kept focussed, kept digging deep and kept working hard," Kovalainen continued. "We have got another upgrade for the car this weekend, so I think this is the attitude that we need at this difficult time - to just keep our heads up."
