The possibilities of passing during Grands Prix will be increased in difficulty once the majority of teams are running with double diffusers, claims BMW team principal Mario Theissen. Over half of the field is now rushing to develop and finalise devices following the FIA's ruling over the matter this week.

With the Brawn, Williams and Toyota teams' 'double-decker' diffuser designs being cleared as legal by governing body the FIA, rivals now have no choice but to develop similar ideas in order to match the pace of the six advantaged cars.
"We accept the decision of the International Court of Appeal," explained Dr. Theissen. "This ruling means we now have clarity regarding the application of the regulations - however, it does not achieve the reduction in downforce and cornering speeds intended by the Overtaking Working Group when the new regulations were drawn up; at the same time, this decision means that seven teams will have to invest heavily in carrying out the necessary modifications to their cars."
