Toyota inside the top eight

The Toyota team continued its run of promising form this year, with sixth and eighth positions for Jarno Trulli and Timo Glock in both the first and second practice sessions in China on Friday.

Trulli looked quick straight out of the pits at Shanghai on Friday morning, and was on another fast lap when an electrical problem slowed the car on the exit of Turn 6. The Italian made up for the time loss by completing a total of 42 laps - the most of anybody - in the afternoon, bringing his total for the day to 61. "That was a busy Friday for me," he said at the end of his day's work. "This morning we had an electrical problem which cost us a bit of track time, but we recovered to complete our programme of work on setup and tyres. The track surface wasn't in fantastic condition this morning, but it improved during the day; in general I'm still not happy with the car's balance and pace, so I hope we can analyse the data tonight and aim for better tomorrow - then we can target another strong result on Sunday."

German Glock wound up sixth and two places behind his team-mate in both sessions, as he hopes to repeat his podium finish of Malaysia two weeks ago. "So far things are going okay for us," he commented. "The track was quite tricky this morning because there wasn't much grip; I was sliding around on the green track and had to find a way to get the car together, but over the course of the day we sorted out a lot in terms of the setup. The second free practice session was better and the car felt more together, but we have more work to do to get the car in the right direction for tomorrow - overall, this has not been a bad start to the weekend."
