Nico Rosberg has good reason to be confident after finishing just fractions of a second behind Jenson Button in Friday's second practice session. The two drivers, separated by just two hundredths of a second, are now focussing on the remainder of their weekends knowing they are driving with legal diffusers.
"It's been an interesting day for us," Rosberg said after the afternoon session. "We've learnt a lot, particularly about the tyres and how to get the best out of them here. The one major thing for us at the moment, though, is that this season we have consistency from one track to another." Rosberg's point has been proven, by finishing five of eight practices so far in 2009 as the fastest man. "We're now going to a race and not getting any big surprises, as we seem to have learnt from our mistakes from last year," he added.
Team-mate Kazuki Nakajima also finished comfortably in the top ten, ending his day in seventh position, despite encountering some problems with his tyres. "It was a bit difficult out there for me today," admitted the only Japanese driver in the field. "The tyres were behaving strangely this morning, but they did improve a little this afternoon, and I was also struggling to find a good balance. I now need to see where I
can improve for qualifying tomorrow - we'll see how we go."
WilliamsF1 has not won a race since 2004, when Juan-Pablo Montoya triumphed in Brazil. With competitive showings so far this year, however, Rosberg and Nakajima could find themselves in a race-winning position sooner rather than later.
