Fernando Alonso will be running a new-style double diffuser for qualifying in China this afternoon, after the Renault flew the new part into the country at short notice. The French team is the second to install a new diffuser this weekend, as McLaren have also done so following the FIA's ruling in Paris on Tuesday.
With the governing body officially declaring the revolutionary 'double-decker' diffusers as legal in an announcement on Wednesday, Renault quickly sent their version of the device to Shanghai for this weekend.
"We flew the new diffuser into China, but didn't have enough time to run it on Friday," explained Director of Engineering Pat Symonds. "The new diffuser hadn't even been tested until this morning - Fernando completed six laps with it so, we'll have to see and find out how it works on the car in qualifying too."
