Ferrari hurting without KERS

18 April 2009

Ferrari is expected to prepare for a weekend of damage limitation in China, rather than hoping for 'third time lucky', after the team continued to struggle on Friday. Heading in final practice and qualifying on Saturday, the red cars appear to be very much on the back foot in comparison with their usual high standards.

"We will have to run a few races on the defensive and try and do the best we can," admitted team principal Stefano Domenicali. "Clearly, without KERS, we lose a bit of performance and initial indications are that we are not seeing any improvement in the balance of a car which, let's not forget, was designed to carry the system. We are in a difficult situation, and we must try and stay calm and work hard on all fronts."

Chris Dyer, this week promoted by Domenicali to team manager role, is assessing technical possibilities as Round 3 looms ever closer. "Here, the softer tyre (Super Soft compound) seems to work better than what we saw in Australia, while the harder one (Medium) has performed as we had expected. We have had no technical problems during practice, and are able to evaluate new aerodynamic solutions."
