Jenson Button has admitted that there was nothing he could do to restrain the flying Red Bull Racing cars in the Chinese Grand Prix, after he finished third behind the rapid Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber.
Button, who started fifth and still leads the championship, continued his record of podium finishes despite his winning streak coming to and end. "We couldn't challenge these people today, who were immensely quick," he admitted in the post-race conference. "But it is great to score six points, which is important for the consistency."
"I wasn't weaving to block, honestly!" he continued, talking of his tyre-warming activities on the long back straight. "Rubens and myself struggled quite a bit, I don't know what reason that is for." Button also reported that his car was working in a 'different way', a problem which will be rectified in due course.
"I think everyone was struggling with the aquaplaning out there," he continued. "It was pretty crazy conditions into the last corner - it was a lake and I couldn't brake for the corner. A few other places were the same, and the tyres shuddered as you couldn't get temperature into them. It was difficult race and every lap you thought you were going to throw the car off, you really did. So to finish the race was an achievement, and to come home on the podium is also great."
