Rookie Buemi in the points again

Sébastien Buemi completed another fine race in China, to confirm a points position for the second time from his first three Formula One races. Having only learned the Shanghai track on Friday, the Swiss newcomer finished eighth to score a single point, bringing his total for 2009 to three so far.

"I am very happy as the team did a super job, so that we got another point to take away from here," 21-year-old Buemi said after the race. "I am pleased that, in three races, I have scored twice. Maybe I could have done a little bit better, but I'm happy all the same."

Switzerland's sole representative in the field made progress after starting tenth, having qualified for Q3 on Saturday. Despite a Turn 14 spin on the second safety car restart plus an unscheduled pit stop for a nose change, he went on to challenge Timo Glock for seventh position in the last laps, narrowly missing out on two points. "We were very competitive in the early stages, and I got past Räikkönen and Hamilton," Sébastien continued. "After that I struggled a bit; I think it was one of my hardest races ever."

However, a scary moment for the Swiss driver during the race almost saw his chances vanish. "As for the incident with Vettel, it happened under safety car conditions," Buemi explained. "I didn't see him and tried to swerve to the right, but it was not enough to avoid him. We changed the wing on my car and I'm glad I didn't spoil his race."
