Brawn prepared for Bahrain

22 April 2009

The Brawn team is all set for this weekend's Bahrain Grand Prix, which marks the end of the season-opening 'flyaway' races before heading back to Europe for Round 5. The team has enjoyed a positive start to 2009, collecting 36 points from a possible 45 so far.

"As the first four Grands Prix take place over just a five-week period, it has been an intense and demanding start to the season for the Brawn GP team," said team owner Ross Brawn. "Australia, Malaysia and China produced some fantastic racing and I am very pleased with how the team responded to the challenges that we have faced. This was particularly the case in China last weekend, where the team and the drivers did an excellent job." Ross is pleased that the squad was able to maximize the most from a weekend on which the Red Bull team excelled, with his drivers Button and Barrichello coming home third and fourth.

"Bahrain is always one of my favourite races on the calendar," championship leader Button said. "I love the country and the circuit has some great fast flowing sections which really suit my driving style, and allow you to push the car to its limits. It's a good circuit for overtaking, particularly at Turn 1 after the long straight where you brake very hard. Confidence under braking is the key to a quick lap."

Team-mate Rubens Barrichello has also enjoyed the start to the season, but is six points behind Button and looking to make up ground as quickly as possible. "Bahrain is not a particularly quick track. but it is an interesting one from a driver's perspective," he said. "It can turn very windy, particularly in the afternoon, which causes sand to be blown onto the track which affects the grip levels - this can be a particular challenge in qualifying when everyone is trying to be out on track at the last minute, when the circuit is cleanest." The Brazilian is hoping for a dry weekend in the desert at Sakhir following two rain affected races in Malaysia and China.
