STR4 hard to drive for Bourdais

22 April 2009

Sébastien Bourdais has complained of his difficulties to competitively drive this year's Toro Rosso-Ferrari. The Frenchman, now in his second season of F1, has struggled to make an impression so far in comparison with team-mate - and 2009 rookie - Sébastien Buemi, with one point to the Swiss driver's three.

"If you only look at it on paper, this year should be worse because the tyres are much harder," Bourdais said. "It's harder, because you have 20% more grip at the front. It's a little bit difficult, I can't hide it. This is the exact opposite of what I need - I mean, that's my weakness and I know it, and I assume it."

Bourdais added that being aware of the problem is no reason to particularly improve, but was happy to finish tenth at Round 2 in Malaysia. "There will be two steps for us," he continued. "In Barcelona we will get what Red Bull has (aerodynamic modifications), which is a significant thing because, along with a big wing, it's pretty major; and that's what we are hoping for, seeing what it's going to do and hopefully by then not everybody will have a double deck and we can look quite good."

Sébastien is now in his second season of Formula One and the Toro Rosso team, from which he feels thoroughly supported. "Yeah, and even more, because it's not like anybody pretends they have the answer or knows what's the best," he added. "Nobody knows, because we've started with different cars and feel we have to try different things and learn from this; one day one guy is going to get the good end, and one day it will be the other guy."
