Timo Glock has admitted that the pace of team-mate Jarno Trulli was too much to be able to keep up with in Bahrain's qualifying session on Saturday, as the two Toyota cars headed the front row of the starting grid for the first time ever.
Although the fuel loads of the twenty starters are yet to be revealed by the FIA, Glock's fastest time was almost three tenths of a second slower than his team-mate, who confirmed his ever-rapid qualifying pace again. "It was not too bad," Glock said afterwards. "We found quite a thing overnight; we struggled yesterday with the brakes quite a lot but made good changes to the car."
The German looked to be on for his first pole position in the final minute of the session before his team-mate crossed the line. "I was surprised I was quickest at the end," Glock continued. "I was quite happy with qualifying but the wind changes - it made the car nervous - so it was quite difficult in Q3. Jarno is good at qualifying and I made one mistake and lost a little bit of time, but without that it would not have been good enough for pole."
The last indication of race pace showed that Glock appears to be on top, having set the fastest lap time in final practice on Saturday morning before the Toyota stopped on circuit with only a few minutes to go.
