Mark Webber was not happy to qualify just nineteenth on Saturday in Bahrain, having been blocked by the Force India of Adrian Sutil in the final minute of the session. On a flying lap, the Red Bull lost time by having to overtake Sutil into the final corner, before the German immediately repassed the Australian to compromise a second timed lap.
"Traffic," Webber, of Queanbeyan, said plainly after being eliminated at the earlier possible point. "I had traffic on the last corner and therefore wasn't quick enough to go through. I don't usually get caught out with that problem, and that was the worst place to get nailed as it wrecked both of my flying laps." The fact that Mark finished runner-up in last Sunday's Chinese Grand Prix only adds insult to injury after today's incident.
"I had nowhere to go in the last corner of my first lap and then Sutil slipstreamed past me for the start of my second, so it was a disaster. Q1 is the worst session to have had that problem, as now we're at the back for tomorrow. My race is screwed." As Sutil apologised after qualifying, all chances of a good result may not be lost just yet for Webber as team-mate Vettel continued to demonstrate the strong pace of the car in third position.
