Diverse race for Red Bull drivers

The Red Bull Racing team had an afternoon of mixed result in Bahrain as Sebastian Vettel drove another strong race to confirm his scoring of eighteen points in a week. Team-mate Mark Webber's progress was halted in the midfield as the Australian struggled to make an impression from eighteenth on the grid.

"Very good," said Vettel, who finished second after starting third. "A good result and good points, but it was a difficult race. The start was okay, but then suddenly Lewis was next to me - he must have pressed his special button and got an advantage. At the first corner we were three deep with me in the middle and Jenson on the outside, so I had to give way and lost two positions. Unfortunately I then got stuck behind Lewis, which caused degradation to the tyres - you start to slide and never really come back from that."

Passing Hamilton through pit stops, the German then challenged Jarno Trulli for lap after lap in a bid to take second place, eventually overhauling the Italian's Toyota during the final pit stops. "In the second stint I was just behind Jarno, which was a shame as I was on soft tyres and could have gone a bit quicker," the German, who won in China last weekend, continued. "In the third stint, it was the other way round and I had to defend against Jarno who was then on the soft tyres; he was very close in my mirrors, but I didn't make any mistakes and we came second! A massive thanks to all the guys for this great result."

Webber suffered another day of frustration having been blocked by Adrian Sutil in qualifying and therefore starting 18th on the grid. "My start was okay, we had a reasonable first few laps, but then I got stuck behind Piquet," the Australian explained who, unlike the Renault driver, was not carrying a KERS unit. "It's very difficult to overtake a car with KERS - he was too quick on the straights and that really wrecked the first stint for me. We then converted to a two-stop strategy, but the grip was quite low on the prime tyres (the harder of the two compounds, this weekend being Medium), although it was the same for everyone. If you don't start near the front in these races we know the score, but I did my best." He did, however, congratulate his team-mate's second place as well as thanking the Red Bull engineers for their continued hard work.
