Ecclestone pleased with McLaren outcome
29 April 2009 / PhotosBernie Ecclestone is satisfied with the result of Wednesday's hearing in Paris between Formula One governing body the FIA and the McLaren team. The final part of 'liegate' ended with the British team receiving a postponed three-race ban which will be cancelled if no similar incident involving the team takes place between now and the end of April 2010.
"Good," F1 supremo Ecclestone said to the BBC on leaving the FIA's Paris headquarters. "Fair and honest and straight; I thought Martin (Whitmarsh, McLaren team principal) was happy with that - they knew they did something wrong so they got a slap."
Today's meeting appears to have strengthened the relationship between McLaren and the FIA, as the federation was particularly impressed with the manner and honesty with which Whitmarsh dealt with the situation. With no fine or exclusions from the championship in the equation, Ecclestone was then asked if he believed that McLaren had got off slightly - "Probably yes," he replied.
