The best yet to come, says Horner

29 April 2009

Christian Horner has vowed that we are yet to see the best performances from the Red Bull Racing RB5, after two very strong races from the team. Sebastian Vettel finished second in Bahrain on Sunday, but the previous race in China saw the German and team-mate Mark Webber score a one-two result, although their team principal ensures that stronger performances are approaching.

China saw both the first pole and race win for the Red Bull squad since entering F1 in 2005 although, with a major aerodynamics upgraded package scheduled for Monaco, the Anglo-Austrian squad is promising for a lot more "We have got a lot of developments to come and still have the double-diffuser to look forward to," said Horner, of a car which thus far has not featured a double-diffuser or KERS device.

"It is still early days, but we have clearly now demonstrated in wet and dry conditions now what our potential is," he continued. "You will see on the race plot (of Bahrain) that we would have followed Jenson, and we had the overlap of about three or four laps on each stint," he explained, claiming that traffic was one factor to blame for Vettel not winning the race."

The next encounter, and the first in Europe this year, takes place in Spain in two weekends' time before the all-important Monaco two weeks later, on 24 May.
