Kubica taking positives from hard season

30 April 2009

Robert Kubica is keeping his chin up after a miserable first four races from which the Pole, a title contender for much of last year, has failed to score a point. Kubica was widely tipped as a championship winner for 2009, although a problematic BMW has halted his charge dramatically.

The Pole's season began in spectacular fashion with a crash in Australia when challenging Sebastian Vettel for second place, in a Grand Prix which the team believed could have finished with victory. Kubica has endured a highly difficult time so far, more recently as a shunt with Trulli in China was capped off by a miserable drive to 18th place in Bahrain last weekend.

"You have to take the positive aspects from winning and the positive aspects from losing," Robert said, who won his first Grand Prix in Canada last year. "Setbacks can make you much stronger; actually, you can profit much more from losing than from winning."

The poor start is particularly frustrating for the Kraków-born driver, whose challenge in 2008 was seemingly hampered as the team focussed its attention on the F1.09 for this season. "Of course I enjoy the times when everything is running smoothly," he continued. "However, life is always changing and, sooner or later, you have to deal with difficulties again. It is important to conquer these difficulties in the right mood and to learn from them."
