Buemi aiming for top 15 on grid

08 May 2009

Sébastien Buemi is hoping to pass into the second phase of the qualifying session in Barcelona on Saturday by making best use of a selection of updates on the Ferrari-powered Toro Rosso for the start of the European season. The Swiss rookie has enjoyed a positive start to the campaign, scoring three points thus far.

"We have a lot of new parts," 20-year-old Buemi confirmed in Spain on Friday. "Hopefully it's going to work well, but you never know before you try them; we have no testing, so we have tried to be as prepared as possible but it's always a big question whether everything you put on the car is going to work."

The only new driver on the grid in 2009, Buemi has shone so far this year by consistently outpacing his more experienced team-mate and dicing in the midfield in all races apart from Bahrain. "This aero package is the biggest thing since the beginning of the season," he continued. "We don't know how much the others are going to improve, but I am confident. Without any mistakes, we should make it into Q2; in China, we made it into Q2 really easily and then into Q3 - it's so close that two tenths either way can make the difference between it being easy, or being out."
