Further confidence boost for Button

Jenson Button was delighted to have won his fourth race out of five in 2009 after leading home a Brawn one-two in Spain. The Englishman was particularly pleased to have taken victory on a weekend which saw the debuts of many updated aerodynamic packages up and down the pit lane.

With both team cars planning to pit three times during the race, Button's engineers elected to switch to a two-stop strategy during the Grand Prix. "We were both going in that direction but they switched me to a two-stop just to cover all our bases," Button explained in the post-race press conference. "Three-stop was the quickest strategy, we thought, and I wasn't sure about going to a two-stop. When I put the fuel onboard it felt very, very heavy and I didn't think I'd get out ahead of Massa and Vettel; I did and from then on I knew I could just get my head down and concentrate on getting the laps in and being as consistent as possible."

With the team having tipped team-mate Barrichello to claim victory this weekend, Button's success sees his championship lead become 14 points over his team-mate. "To come away with a win, they all mean a lot obviously, but coming back into Europe and winning in Barcelona - a circuit that I've always found a little bit tough - it's a good feeling and it gives me a lot of confidence for the rest of the season," Jenson concluded.
