The Super Aguri team will not be making a return to Formula One, its former co-owner has said. With a proposed budget cap in place for next season, the team had seemingly been one of several in the possible line-up for selection by governing body the FIA. Today's news proves, however, that the possibility of seeing the Japanese cars on the grid again was no more than a large rumour.

The team entered the sport in 2006, running an effective second Honda team with chassis provided by the works outfit. With Japanese driver Takuma Sato onboard, both he and team-mate Anthony Davidson have been out of F1 since the departure of the team, five races into last season. The probability of the team returning to the grid has now been declared as nil, however.
"There's absolutely no chance," former co-owner Fumio Akita said to Reuters, after old team owner Aguri Suzuki allegedly talked up a possible return. "Even without the world financial crisis and its effect on Japan's economy we couldn't afford it."
From 2010 onwards, teams will be - in the event of no changes to the rule - be presented with the option of a £40m annual budget cap whilst enjoying greater technical design freedom, such as more flexible wings and KERS devices with an increased power output. "We have already pulled out once because we did not have the resources to continue," Akita continued. "Even if we had 60 million dollars to spend we would have to start from scratch again. We don't know where these newspaper reports came from but Aguri (Suzuki) has also said there's no chance."
