Title sponsorship no rush for Brawn GP

Title sponsorship no rush for Brawn GP

14 May 2009

Brawn GP is not concerned over the fact that it yet to sign a title sponsor for the team. Despite a strong link with Virgin, the Brackley-based squad is believed to be in talks with several sponsors as a result of its immense success so far in 2009. Drivers Button and Barrichello currently lead the drivers' championship, with Brawn ahead of Red Bull Racing by 30.5 points in the constructors' championship.

The team's most recent deal saw the appearance of the Terminator at the Spanish Grand Prix for a one-off film deal, although the outfit has showed no signs thus far of signing a title sponsor. "The situation will change when we make the decision to change it," company CEO Nick Fry told Autosport. "We have a lot of offers on the table and we are not badly off for this year. We can do the job with the money and resources that we have got at the moment.

"What Ross [Brawn, team principal and owner] and I are looking for is the best solution for the next five years, and we don't need to hurry. We have obviously had a kind offer from Virgin, but there are other offers on the table from big companies who perhaps can't move as quickly as a company as entrepreneurial as Virgin."

Despite the credit crunch, the team remains financially stable as a result of Honda's input at the start of the project, which is sufficient for the duration of the 2009 season. "We are biding our time, not panicking," Fry continued. "I am sure you will see more sponsors on the car but it will be done in a considered way. I would hope we could do a deal over the course of this season, but whether or not we have a title sponsor on the car this year we will see."
