Ferrari is remaining realistic after practice in Monaco on Thursday; the Italian team, centre of attention off the track as the budget cap row rages on, has continued to make strides in Monte-Carlo as Massa and Räikkönen finished the day in fifth and seventh positions.
With just six points from the first five races, Ferrari has experienced its most testing start to a season in history although the F60 is now beginning to show stronger signs. "It's hard to say if there's been an improvement since Barcelona but we are in amongst the other front runners, which is already a good sign," said Massa.
"From what we've seen today, our car seems to be quick and consistent in performance terms. In the past, I wasn't particularly keen on this track, but more recently that has changed. The softer tyres are definitely quicker but, after ten laps or so, you start to lose the back end a bit." The Brazilian, who grabbed pole last year, went on to stress that practice results are often not representative as track conditions continue to change.
"I would say the car is handling reasonably well," 2007 Champion Räikkönen continued. "There are still a few areas where we can improve but I am pleased with what we achieved today. Driving here is always a challenge, even if Sunday's race can then be rather boring with overtaking practically impossible; if you end up behind slower cars there is nothing you can do but wait for the pit stop."
