Mediocre performance for Toyota

21 May 2009 / Results / Photos

Toyota experienced an uncharacteristic day in Monaco on Thursday as Jarno Trulli and Timo Glock wound up fourteenth and eighteenth fastest in Monaco's second practice session. With tyre problems and traffic holding the drivers back, however, both men are looking for improvements on Saturday.

With dry and bright conditions throughout Thursday in Monte-Carlo, both Toyotas remained towards the bottom of the timesheets for the majority of the day as only a small number of quicker lap times saw the white and red machines move up the timesheets. "We did our normal work of setting up the car and trying to find a good balance," reported Trulli, who completed 43 laps as opposed to Glock's 45.

"Of course, the track surface was dirty this morning and that meant there wasn't much grip; in second practice I had some problems with the tyres and with degradation, so we must look into that and work out a solution." The Pescara-born driver is looking forward to a day off from the cockpit on Friday in order to conduct a more detailed analysis into the performance of the TF109.

"That was not an easy day for me," Glock admitted, having attempted to use a number of mechanical and aerodynamic car configurations. "Overall, in terms of lap times it was not great but it's always tough to judge after practice. We need to work on getting better traction and getting the best out of the tyres, which was a bit of a challenge in the afternoon. It's tricky but we have a lot of information to look at and we'll make improvements before qualifying."
