Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone has admitted he is in talks with Argentine government officials in order to discuss a possible return for the sport to the South American country.
Having first had a place on the calendar in 1953 and hosting 20 races up to the back end of last decade, Ecclestone hinted the comeback when speaking in Monaco on Friday. "I am talking to the people in Argentina, indeed," confirmed the head of FOM, commercial rights holders for F1. "We've only just started talking though."
Often a season-opening venue, Argentina lost its place on the F1 calendar after the 1998 event due to financial reasons. The final race in capital Buenos Aires saw Michael Schumacher claim victory for Ferrari on an afternoon which featured a controversial collision with David Coulthard's McLaren.
