Hamilton: "I'll be back next year to win!"

Lewis Hamilton has vowed that he will be returning to Monte-Carlo with winning the target in 2010 after a tough day in the principality. The World Champion, who started at the back of the grid after a qualifying mistake and five-place grid penalty, rose to twelfth position after an early race collision with Nick Heidfeld.

Despite the strong performance on Sunday Hamilton failured to add to his already meagre points total so far, falling to ninth place in the standings with as many points. The Tewin favourite is now 42 points behind compatriot and championship leader Jenson Button, however.

"It was an extremely tough race but I feel pretty satisfied about it though," Lewis said afterwards. "I got to the flag and pushed as hard as I could throughout the race; my car got damaged when I hit a BMW (Heidfeld) - I'm not sure who it was to be honest. The little incident damaged my wing so I suffered from a lot of understeer. When we changed my wing it went a bit better, fortunately.

"Congratulations to Jenson (Button) who had a fantastic race. We now need to continue pushing to improve the car - I will be back though next year to try and win here!"
