Ross Brawn confident ahead of race

24 May 2009 / Results

A content Ross Brawn is filled with optimism ahead of Sunday afternoon's Monte-Carlo Grand Prix. The Englishman saw his BGP 001 car clinch its fourth pole position from six qualifying sessions on Saturday and, with the team's second contender in third position, dreams for a one-two result on the famous streets on Monaco.

With a resurgent Kimi Räikkönen just two hundredths of a second down on Button's pole time and in a Ferrari F60 fitted with KERS, the Brawn team knows that Monaco could be one of the biggest challenges of the season. "To achieve pole and third position on the grid in the most important qualifying hour of the season is a real achievement and puts us in a strong position for the race," team owner Ross said after qualifying.

"Jenson had to work quite hard on his setup as he has been struggling with the balance and a lack of front grip all weekend, so knew that the lap had to be extra special to make the difference and he delivered very impressively. Rubens, as ever, excels around Monaco and he is very well placed to take the fight to Jenson tomorrow. The cars around us are also looking strong so it is going to be a very interesting race."

With only one top podium step, the contest for victory and to collect the winning trophy from His Serene Highness Prince Albert II is likely to be an immense one, all getting underway at 2pm local time (GMT +1).
