Lewis Hamilton is prepared to attack next weekend's Turkish Grand Prix with determination, believing that the McLaren's current lack of downforce will result in a difficult three days at the fast and flowing Istanbul Park. After missing out on points due to his qualifying crash in Monaco, the World Champion is hoping for a return to the top eight in the Eurasian country.

An uncharacteristic error by Hamilton saw his McLaren-Mercedes hit the Mirabeau wall in Monte-Carlo, although Turkey's Grand Prix circuit couldn't be much different to the streets of the principality. "I love racing in Turkey; it's a real challenge because you need to attack the lap to get a good time but you also need to be careful with your tyres," explained the 24-year-old, who suffered from a puncture during the race in 2007. "If you push too much, particularly through Turn Eight, your tyres are going to suffer; it's all about finding the perfect balance in practice and being disciplined in the race so you don't overdo it."
Making its first appearance in 2005, Kimi Räikkönen claimed victory for McLaren in the inaugural Turkish Grand Prix although every year since has seen Felipe Massa and Ferrari reign supreme on the 5.3km (3.3mi), anti-clockwise track. "I also love the fact that it's a new circuit that has really captured the flavour of some of the older, classic tracks," Hamilton continued. "It's got a bit of everything and is fantastic to drive. Also, as it's anti-clockwise, it gives your neck a bit of a workout but you just need to make sure you've exercised the left side of your neck a little more than usual before getting in the car."
