John Howett is confident that any one of a number of 'constructive proposals' can be put into place in order to solve the ongoing rows over the future of Formula One. Vice president of the Formula One Teams' Association (FOTA) and also president of the Toyota team, Howett described how the group is working on a series of solutions.
"There are a whole number of constructive proposals," Howett explained to Autosport, after all ten FOTA teams submitted their entries for the 2010 World Championship. "It's quite a comprehensive document and it's probably not appropriate to comment; it's gone through the TRWG (Technical Regulations Working Group of FOTA, chaired by engineer and Brawn GP team owner Ross Brawn) and it's proposed that it's discussed at the FIA technical working group with Charlie Whiting (FIA delegate) and then considered, but it is a fairly comprehensive package."
On submitting their entries for next season, however, FOTA stressed that all teams desire to race by a single set of technical regulations, pushing for immediate changes to - or even a complete removal of - the FIA's proposed budget cap system (which, in its current state, would leave possibilities open for a 'two-tier' championship. "FOTA has reached a very concrete agreement among the members on a very constructive method of reducing costs," Howett added. "I don't think - at the moment - that there's any discussion of a budget cap."
