'Istanbul is not one of my favourite circuits'

02 June 2009

Jarno Trulli is hoping for as much success as possible from the Turkish Grand Prix this weekend. After a dismal Monaco race meeting for the Japanese team, in which both cars qualified the slowest of the field, Pescara-born Trulli is looking to rejuvenate the team on one of his self-confessed worst tracks of the year.

With a second corner crash in Barcelona followed by a lowly 13th place finish for Trulli in Monte-Carlo, the Italian is yet to score since his Bahrain podium result on 26 April. "I am hopeful of a strong result this weekend," said Jarno, whose best result of sixth at Istanbul Park came in the inaugural race for the circuit four years ago. "Monaco was difficult for everyone in the team but that is in the past now and we are looking forward to the next race; Monaco is basically a one-off circuit for Formula 1 and the Istanbul track is very different so I'm sure we will be a lot more competitive this weekend."

Until Spain, the team had enjoyed a strong start to the campaign with a podium result by Trulli in the Australian season-opener followed by another for team-mate Timo Glock in Malaysia; the third's team rostrum finish, courtesy again of Trulli, followed in Bahrain. "We are third in the constructors' championship which shows that, overall, we are in good shape this year and it is important we return to the performance level we had in the first four races," Jarno continued.

"Istanbul is not one of my favourite circuits and I have not had much luck there in the past; but I am determined to change that. Turn 8 is the most challenging part of the track and it's important to get your setup right for that as you need a balanced car to be really quick. I can't wait to start practice and find out where we are because I am fired up to bounce back this weekend."
