Räikkönen enjoys second rally experience

02 June 2009

Kimi Räikkönen got a different taste of motorsport action having taken part in the Rally della Marca at the weekend. The 2007 World Champion, having been granted permission by Ferrari, enjoyed his second rally experience despite ultimately crashing out of the event.

Having driven in Finland's Arctic Rally in January, Finn Räikkönen was back at the wheel of the Fiat Grande Punto S2000 over the weekend. With co-driver Kaj Lindstrom giving the instructions on the tarmac stages outside of Treviso, Kimi - who drove in snowy conditions earlier in the year - was given a more accurate comparison between a Formula One and rally car.

The event ended prematurely, however, when Räikkönen lost control on stage three, resulting in heavy contact with rocks surrounding the course. Having been 8th in class, the car was forced into retirement with heavy damage to the right-rear wheel.
