Adrian Sutil was satisfied to successfully make Q2 and qualify fifteenth on the grid in Monte-Carlo before going on to register a fourteenth place finish in the race. The German, whose Force India team remains the only one still to score in 2009, now believes that the green, orange and white cars should be in midfield contention at every race.

An upsetting Monaco Grand Prix of 2008 saw Sutil, lying fourth, taken out by Kimi Räikkönen; a year down the line and the Indian squad, headed by Vijay Mallya, is still searching for its first ever points although a missed opportunity for Adrian to score in China this year was another indication of the team's potential, albeit a disappointing one.
"For me personally, I think it was a little bit up and down," admitted Starnberg's Sutil after Monaco. "I was pleased to make Q2 for the first time and was really looking forward to the race but the end result was a little disappointing; when I had to come in for the harder tyres it was always going to be tough as I dropped to the rear of the field and then got stuck in the traffic. I could do some good laps at the end, though, and had a good battle with Lewis (Hamilton) for some of the race - for this we can be quite happy. We have a competitive pace and I think Giancarlo (Fisichella) showed that we are getting stronger all the time."

Despite the Monaco boost, however, the 26-year-old continued to admit that he is aiming to remain realistic at present, with a large aerodynamics upgrade due at Silverstone in two races' time. "We have to keep pushing and try to have another strong qualifying that sets us up for the race," he went on. "I enjoy the track and you can actually overtake in some corners so I hope we can have some good fights and be able to move up the field. I think we're solid midfield contenders now so we have to get to the finish and see where we are."
