Glock not leaving Toyota

04 June 2009

Timo Glock will be staying with the Toyota team, his manager has commented. The German, who first raced for the Cologne-based team in 2008, currently lies sixth in this year's World Championship and is all set for another season for the Japanese marque in accordance to his multi-year deal.

Having completed his 24th race for Toyota in Monaco, 27-year-old Timo's immediate future plans were confirmed by his manager on Thursday. "Timo will be together with Toyota in 2010 - of that there is no doubt," Hans Bernd Kamps told Germany's Sport1. Fans of Lindenfels-born Glock will be pleased to hear the news, after the driver's recent comments regarding the ongoing financial crises and FIA-FOTA row: "If next year there is no more Formula One, I would return to working with my Dad in his scaffolding company!"

Glock first entered F1 in 2004 as temporary replacement to Giorgio Pantano; dubbed 'Tim O'Glock' by the Irish team, he impressed at once by claiming 7th place and two points on his first outing in Montreal. Drafted back in at the end of the year, Timo secured a trio of 15th places in China, Japan and Brazil. His Toyota debut started with a bang after a large accident in Australia last year, although his best career drive to date came by securing 2nd place in Hungary, just a fortnight after a heavy rear-end impact with Hockenheim's pit wall.

The start of the 2009 season has featured flashes of brilliance from the Toyota driver, with a podium in Malaysia being followed by a front row grid slot and stint in the lead of the Bahrain Grand Prix. Monaco may have been a disappointment but he trails more experienced team-mate Jarno Trulli by just 2.5 points heading into Turkey.
