Renault signs deal with MegaFon

04 June 2009

The Renault team will begin a new sponsorship programme with MegaFon at this weekend's Turkish Grand Prix. The partnership, which will run for the remainder of the season, sees the Russian telecommunications company move into Formula One for the first time.

MegaFon's name - directly translating to 'megaphone' - and logo will be seen on the overalls of drivers Fernando Alonso and Nelsinho Piquet for the first time in Istanbul, as well as on the carbon floor of the R29, seen in front of the car's rear wheels.

"Russia is a market of significant and growing interest to the global economy and is therefore important for Formula One," said Renault team managing director Flavio Briatore. "Our partnership with MegaFon will help enhance our ability to communicate with a huge number of potential Formula One fans across Russia."

"Since its foundation, MegaFon has always supported the development of sport and has sponsored the national football and hockey teams for several years," continued Andrey Kraynik, CEO of the Moscow-based company. "Recently we have also become the mobile provider of the XXII Olympic Winter Games to be held in Sochi in 2014. The partnership with Renault is an opportunity for MegaFon to show its capabilities on the international market.

"Formula One expresses the ideas close to the corporate culture of MegaFon, which are perfection, development of high technologies, good results and striving for new victories."
