BMW double-diffuser ready for use

05 June 2009

The BMW team will be using a 'double-decker' diffuser for the first time in Turkish Grand Prix practice today. The German manufacturer has experience a dismal start to the campaign but, without KERS for the third consecutive race, is hoping to enhance the aerodynamics of the F1.09 in Istanbul this weekend.

After narrowly missing out on a podium finish due to a collision with former team-mate Sebastian Vettel in Australia's season-opener, Kubica is yet to score points in 2009 despite having been a title favourite before the start of the season. "Now we have to see how much of a gain the double diffuser will bring and how much more our performance will be better than in the last races," the Pole said.

Robert then went on to give his feelings on the view that he is one of the more demanding drivers in the paddock, in terms of working with the team: "Me? No, not really, I don't think so. I think every driver is asking for as much as he would like to get and that's all. Everybody is pushing very hard - the driver from the driver point of view and the team from the team point of view, I think that is quite normal.

"If you look at last year's results it would be good to repeat them at nearly every track of the season, but we have already seen this year that it is very difficult. At the beginning of the season it was a bit easier when McLaren and Ferrari were behind us and we were behind the double diffuser group, but since then we have los ground in the races.

"I think this track will suit our car better and I hope the double-diffuser will bring the expected results and that we will be at least able to qualify in Q3, but it is very difficult to predict, so we will have to wait and see."
