Sebastian Vettel endured a less than trouble-free day at Istanbul Park on Friday, as the Red Bull driver was on only his fourth lap before suffering from a stoppage on track to claim a final result of fifth in the second practice session. After crashing out in Monte-Carlo, the German is in need of a strong result in the Turkish Grand Prix.
Having remained in the pits for some twenty-six minutes at the start of Friday's afternoon practice, Vettel's Red Bull RB5 soon came to an abrupt halt during the one and half hour period. "I felt a vibration during the second session, so stopped the car as it didn't look very good," he explained. "We didn't know what the exact problem was but when we got the car back it turned out it was the engine; we made some changes to the car between the two practice sessions, which meant we were a few minutes late starting the second practice."
As drivers are provided with eight engines for the season this year, the 21-year-old will not incur a grid penalty in the event of changing the engine. "It wouldn't have been a problem but then, as it turned out, I was only able to complete three laps in the afternoon due to the vibration in the car," Sebastian continued. "I'll be relying on Mark's data from today - having one car running on Friday isn't ideal."
