Hamilton: "What can I do?"

A disappointed Lewis Hamilton was left to watch the remainder of the qualifying hour after being eliminated in the first phase of the session. The World Champion, who will start sixteenth on Sunday's grid for the second consecutive race, complained of a severe lack of grip on a predicted tough weekend for the McLaren team.

Having set the second fastest time to Nico Rosberg in Friday's first practice session, optimism had been raised in the Woking team's garage although Hamilton became victim of another depressing reality check in qualifying as the aerodynamically-flawed number 1 McLaren failed to make the cut for Q2.

"What can I do?" Lewis said after being knocked out of the session. "I did the best job I could, just like the team; I had no grip - I think if you could see my on-board you will see I'm sliding everywhere.

"It has just got slower and slower throughout the weekend as the track has got hotter," he explained to the BBC. "It looked great yesterday but this morning it didn't look fantastic. I don't think we should rush anything, it's better that we take our time to refine it. It's not like we can claw back 60 points - we will bounce back next year."
