Another pointless afternoon for Hamilton

Another pointless afternoon for Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton remained upbeat despite a challenging afternoon which yielded no points in Istanbul. The McLaren driver finished in the top five on his first two drives at the Turkish Grand Prix but was never in contention this year, eventually making up three places to come home thirteenth.

In a race which included the sight of the McLaren being passed by rookie Sébastien Buemi's Toro Rosso, Hamilton played his part as one half of the race's most spirited scrap with the Renault of Nelson Piquet. "It was quite an uneventful race but I actually enjoyed myself this afternoon," Hamilton said. "I was very heavy at the start but I just pushed and pushed - that's why I can smile, because I think I drove to my full potential."

With no points scored for McLaren since Lewis' fourth place in the Bahrain Grand on 26 April, the World Champion understands his and the team's task ahead. "The most important thing is for us to keep our heads up and to keep pushing," he continued. "I see my role from now on as helping the team to cure the problems with this year's car and to make next year's car the best it can possibly be.

"When the team gives me a car to win, I will win. Now we look ahead to Silverstone - I really wish Jenson all the best, he did a fantastic job today. Personally, I hope I can come away from my home race with a great feeling from my home fans - I hope they won't give up supporting me."
