Ross Brawn was amazed at Jenson Button's performance in Sunday's Turkish Grand Prix as the Frome-born driver stormed to his sixth victory of the season from second on the starting grid. Brawn, who first worked with Button last year, admits that he has now witnessed an ability from his driver which he failed to notice in 2008.
With another ten points scored on Sunday, Button now leads the championship by a large 26 points from team-mate Rubens Barrichello as the team hits 96 in the constructors' championship. "It was a beautiful drive from Jenson, absolutely perfect," Brawn, who worked with 7-time Champion Michael Schumacher at Ferrari for 11 years, told the BBC. "Obviously the mistake Sebastian (Vettel) made on the first lap left him (Button) completely open because we thought we'd be fighting until the pit-stops; we knew we had a little bit more fuel than he had, but Jenson just managed it perfectly and a wonderful drive.
"He drives in a certain style - he doesn't look hurried, he doesn't look fussy, he has a very, very smooth style; when he's going quick he looks very smooth so it's hard to tell when he's pushing! I gave him a hard time because he went off in practice - that's the first time this year he's gone off - so it's remarkable, absolutely remarkable."
As if it didn't get better for Brawn, F1's next stop is the British Grand Prix at Silverstone for which a huge crowd is expected to support their new heroes. "We all know what we've been through and for the team to produce the car they did in the circumstances is incredible," Brawn continued. "But it's always this mix, this marriage, of car and driver - the guys in the team told me Jenson was exceptional, and I didn't see it last year, but now I believe them."
