Disastrous day for Barrichello

Rubens Barrichello was left aggravated after a highly complicated Turkish Grand Prix on Sunday afternoon. Having qualified third on the grid with less fuel onboard than second-placed team-mate Jenson Button, the Brazilian ended his day in the Brawn garage after an eventful afternoon.

Hoping to make the most of the start and Turn 1's knack for creating incidents, Barrichello's first drama of the day came as soon as the red lights went out. "It was a difficult and immensely frustrating day for me today," he admitted.

"We had a problem with the clutch at the start which caused the car to go into anti-stall, so I wasn't able to get off the line - that dropped me back into the pack and, to complicate things further, I was hitting the limiter on the straights which meant that I couldn't overtake and had to take risks." That he did, first tapping Heikki Kovalainen's McLaren and spinning at Turn 9 before making contact with the Force India of Adrian Sutil and breaking the Brawn's front wing in the process.

"I was prepared to fight my way up the field but the damage caused to the gearbox by the problems at the start began to get worse, so the team had to retire my car," he explained as victim of the team's first ever mechanical problem. "It's difficult to have a day like this when you could see the pace of the car was fantastic but we will bounce back. Silverstone is one of my favourite circuits, so I'll stay positive and look ahead to the British Grand Prix in two weeks' time."
