Heidfeld on the hunt for helmet design

10 June 2009

Nick Heidfeld is on the lookout for talented artists in order to design a unique helmet for his home Grand Prix. Like Jenson Button at Silverstone next weekend, Heidfeld will be running the one-off design for his home Grand Prix in order to raise money for charity and offer exclusive prizes.

With Button due to switch from his luminous Brawn colours of 2009 to a special, custom-designed colour scheme for the British Grand Prix, Heidfeld's new helmet livery will be on display at the German Grand Prix on 12 July. With geometric shapes and brush tips available for use online, fans can create a design which will be selected by recognized helmet designer Jens Munser.

The winning design will - apart from having their creation sat in the BMW F1.09 for practice, qualifying and 60 laps at the Nürburgring in the race on Sunday - will invited to meet and present the helmet to 'Quick Nick' before first practice on Friday 10 July, before enjoying VIP grandstand seating for the rest of the weekend. After the race, German television network RTL will be given the helmet to be used for fundraising activities, allowing the public the opportunity to bid for it.

If you are a dab hand at art and fancy a shot at designing a Formula One helmet, you can do so by visiting Nick Heidfeld's official website here.
