Button struggles in practice

Jenson Button suffered from another tricky Friday at Silverstone as his championship-leading Brawn car was affected by a lack of front-end grip at the English circuit. Somerset's Button, who currently has a twenty-six point advantage over team-mate Rubens Barrichello at the top of the championship standings, is looking for a repeat of Istanbul and a return to form in qualifying.

Jenson Button being in 14th position was not the way the majority of the crowd wanted to see Silverstone's second practice session conclude, although - as Lewis Hamilton led the way for British honours in seventh - Button, sporting a new Union Jack helmet design, continued the search for a more suitable car setup. "We tried a few different evaluations with the aero today and initially struggled as I had no grip in either the high or low-speed corners," Jenson explained on Friday afternoon. "The wind also really affected the car's performance today; we made improvements towards the end of the afternoon session, so we have some good information to look at tonight to try and make further progress before qualifying."

As proof that the BGP 001 is quicker on the Northamptonshire track than in the hands of Button on this day, Rubens Barrichello once again finished the higher up of the duo on his team-mate's home race weekend. "We had a reasonable day and made some good progress on the balance, particularly in the second session," said the Brazilian, whose list of favourite circuits features Silverstone near the top.

"There is a lot of work ahead for us tonight, however, and the pace of our closest competitors was impressive, which we need to have a look at! We will have to see what tomorrow will bring, but hopefully the track will come towards us and we can have a good day."
