Focus on FIA, says Horner

Focus on FIA, says Horner

Christian Horner has said that all attention should now switch toward the FIA after news of FOTA's desire to form a breakaway series. The Red Bull team principal, who attended FOTA's Thursday evening meeting at the Renault factory, believes that the eight teams in question had no choice but to leave F1 at the end of the season.

As the FIA refused to yield over a budget cap for next year and teams keen to abolish the system, FIA president Max Mosley's Wednesday letter to offer a compromise did not wash with FOTA. "The teams feel they have gone a long, long way and it's unfortunate we find ourselves in this situation," Horner said. "It's really now in the hands of the FIA." The Englishman continued to explain how, despite 'efforts to try and find a solution', no answer had been found in the timeframe.

"The teams feel they have gone as far as they can and the FIA feel they have gone as as as they can, and we've ended up in a situation where a solution hasn't been found," he continued. "We've no alternative because, if we can't race in Formula One under the current rules, if you want to keep competing, you've got to look at something else."
