Manor Motorsport is continuing with its development to enter its first cars into Formula One next year. The team, currently competing in the Formula 3 Euroseries, was one of three new entrants to be selected by the FIA to join the field, which will boast a total of twenty-six cars for the first time since 1995.

Soon to become Manor Grand Prix, the South Yorkshire-based team has already played its part in Formula One history by being the home of reigning World Champion Lewis Hamilton in Formula Renault and British Formula 3, as well as the Euroseries, from 2002 to 2004.

"For approximately five months we've been discussing it and probably three months in detailed planning," team owner John Booth told GPUpdate.net, before explaining that the latest rules played a large part in the decision to submit an entry: "The new regulations, the budget cap and the current financial climate has made it possible; before that, it was out of reach of anybody except a manufacturer."

With governing body the FIA and the Formula One Teams Association (FOTA, representing all current teams bar Williams and Force India) still in disagreement over the spending limit, the Manor outfit is aware of the possible consequences for the sport. "Absolutely," Booth acknowledged, "but all we can do is concentrate on our own project and not get involved with the politics at all." He went on to comment that no plans are currently in place for driver selection.
