The McLaren of Lewis Hamilton will be running without its Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) at Silverstone on Friday. The World Champion, whose team and Ferrari are the only two currently making use of the system, will be comparing the performance of the MP4-24 with that of when the unit is in use on team-mate Heikki Kovalainen's car.

Silverstone's larger amount of high-speed sections will in fact pose as a disadvantage when considering the added weight of the system, coupled with the fact that the track contains only a small amount of heavy braking sections, needed to build up sufficient KERS energy for a 6.6 second, 80 horsepower boost per lap.
"I am running with it but Lewis is not, on Friday at least," Finn Kovalainen said. "I don't think it will affect the balance - I am keen to run KERS and Lewis will try it without KERS, so then we will see what happens."
