Nico Rosberg was pleased enough with his results on Friday, picking up two ninth positions from practice at Silverstone. With the German's Toyota-powered car seemingly rooted to the midfield on the first day of running in Britain, team-mate Kazuki Nakajima moved up the order from seventeenth in the morning to fourth in the afternoon.

Having generally been rapid on Fridays all season so far, it was a mild surprise for onlookers as Rosberg remained at the bottom half of the top ten for the duration of the day. "We tried a few things, especially with the car's aerodynamics, and we definitely learned a lot," explained Nico. "The wind made things quite difficult though, so it wasn't so straightforward to find the right setup direction today but we made the best of it."
His Japanese team-mate was pleased with fourth - despite being held up in traffic - but if Rosberg fails to make the top spot in Saturday morning's session, it would be the first race weekend of the year in which the German has not clinched 'P1' in a practice session. "It's always a compromise between the quick corners in the first sector and the slow corners in the last sector," he added, of the Silverstone lap. "Tyre-wise, maybe the option (the softer of the two Bridgestone compounds on offer, this weekend being Soft and identified with a green-painted band around the tyre) isn't quite as good as we would have hoped, but it's still the better tyre here."
