The Red Bull racing team has repeated its lock-out of the top two places in the second free practice session at Silverstone. The Anglo-Austrian team, located twenty miles from Silverstone in Milton Keynes, has enjoyed a strong but tainted day in Great Britain on Friday; Sebastian Vettel headed the session again from Mark Webber, although the Australian's car came to a halt five minutes before the chequered flag came was flown. Adrian Sutil ended an impressive day third for Force India.
With temperatures creeping up to only 16°C (60°F) on Friday afternoon, the cars took to the Silverstone track for the second one and a half hour session of the weekend. Vettel's time of 1.19.456 did not match his leading pace of the morning but did overhaul the long-standing best effort of team-mate Mark Webber, who fell to second place, although an electrical failure prevented the Australian from posting a final improvement.
Adrian Sutil completed a very positive day for the Force India team in third position, having seen both of the team's cars finish 10th and 11th in the morning session. The day ended on a less impressive note, however, when the German ran over the front wing of team-mate Giancarlo Fisichella as the Italian's car was being pushed back into its garage.
Championship leader Jenson Button struggled with mid-corner understeer in the high-speed sections of his home circuit for the duration of the session and, by winding up only 14th fastest for Brawn, looks to be more on the back foot than he was on a difficult Friday in Turkey two weeks ago. The Ferrari team has had as frustrating a time on the track as it has off it on Friday; with governing body the FIA preparing to sue the reigning constructors' World Champions, Felipe Massa and Kimi Räikkönen finished practice in only 17th and 18th places.
The one-hour third practice period of the weekend takes place before qualifying at 10am local British time (BST / GMT+1) on Saturday, followed live on GPUpdate.net.
