Massa lacking raw pace

Felipe Massa believes that no more than a pure lack of pace was his and Ferrari's downfall in qualifying at Silverstone. As team-mate Kimi Räikkönen led the way for the Italian team in ninth position, Brazilian Massa will start Sunday's Grand Prix from eleventh place, with Fernando Alonso's Renault between them.

During what has already been a highly distracting weekend for Ferrari, with governing body the FIA stating legal action will be taking against the reigning constructors' World Champsions, Massa explained his eventual run to a midfield grid spot. "The balance is not too bad but the car was maybe a bit slower than the others, so that's the only problem to be honest," he said.

"Maybe the others have found better developments in the last weeks and maybe they've made a bigger step than us - for sure, it's difficult to explain; I don't think there's a massive change we can make to the car to gain a big performance boost." A slightly downcast Massa also added that having the Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) onboard, which offers an 80 horsepower boost for 6.6 seconds a lap, is not a major advantage on the Silverstone circuit.
