'Nothing to do with sport anymore' - Räikkönen
20 June 2009Kimi Räikkönen has hit out at the dramatic political saga which continues between the FIA and FOTA. Things came to a shocking head at Silverstone on Friday as the latter, which represents all teams apart from Williams and Force India, announced a breakaway series. Räikkönen, however, believes that all parties involved should look closer at the bigger picture.

With FOTA and governing body the FIA having been in disagreement over a proposed €45m budget cap for next year and no compromise found, the former's response to depart F1 on Friday has somewhat shaken the motor racing community. "Of course it's sad to see," the 2007 Champion said at Silverstone. "This is nothing to do with sport anymore, it's more politics and more about egos fighting against each other - it's not really about Formula One anymore, it's about who is going to win and who is going to lose. It's sad but that's how it is, and we'll just see what happens."
With many likely to echo those sentiments, the straight-talking Finn is keen to concentrate on the job in hand. "I don't know what will happen or where we are going to race, but let's finish this year then we will know more about next year," he continued.
With no true knowledge of Ferrari's future in the sport, Kimi has assured of his hopes to stay with the Scuderia. "For sure, we want to have the best drivers and the best teams in the same championship," he concluded. "That's really what Formula One is all about; next year we (Ferrari) are going to race somewhere, but I don't know where."
