20 June 2009Red Bull Racing's Christian Horner has spoken out for the fans of Formula One, apologising for the politics of this season and, in particular, the widespread spat between governing body the FIA and FOTA (Formula One Teams Association). The team principal spoke of the untimely row amid a 'wonderful championship'.

With eight teams, including Red Bull, having announced a breakaway series on Friday as a result of failing to meet a compromise to the budget cap disagreement with the FIA, Horner spoke in Friday's press conference at Silverstone: "I only sympathize with the public who must be - as F1 fans - be confused and, to a certain degree, dismayed with what is currently going on. We have got a wonderful championship this year, Silverstone's last F1 Grand Prix and politics that, quite simply, are difficult for the general public to comprehend and understand."
Whether it be involving diffusers, lying to race stewards or a budget cap, nobody involved in the sport can deny that 2009 has been a season full of controversy in the first half of the year. "F1 should be about what happens on the track," Horner agreed. "It (political-related problems) is taking up far too much of, not only our time, but other people's time."
