Brawn: Peace deal 'won't happen'

21 June 2009

Ross Brawn is sure that any chances of the FIA and FOTA continuing to work together are non-existant. The Brawn GP team owner, representative of one of eight teams involved in the Formula One Teams Association, explained that those involved in the group - despite wanting to race together - cannot wait any longer in the search for an agreement with the governing body.

"No that won't happen, the decision has been made by FOTA," Ross said at Silverstone, when asked if harmony will, eventually, be found. "FOTA now has to press ahead with its ideas and plans, we can't wait until January and decide which way it is going to go. As each day passes, and each week passes, the options for a reconciliation will reduce."

He went on to admit that, whilst FOTA does not remain 100 per cent content, the attractions to a new series remain stronger than staying in Formula One. "We wanted to race in a championship with these teams in it. We don't think a championship without all the manufacturers is viable, so it's okay going into a championship as Williams and Force India have done, but if the other teams aren't with you then that's not viable either."

With the economical crisis ongoing, Ross believes that firm financial backing for the new series remains the key point. "I think the FOTA organisation will have to support the small teams," he concluded. "They know they can't exist just with manufacturers, so there has to be a structure that supports the small teams as well. I am confident that the structure will be in place and be able to provide funding that teams like mine need."
