The ban placed upon mid-race refuelling is looking likely to remain in Formula One next year, despite the current argument over rules raging on between FOTA (Formula One Teams Association) and governing body the FIA. With a budget cap previously agreed not to be put into place, the refuelling issue is yet to be fully discussed.
With the potentially cost-cutting ban on refuelling requested by FOTA to be put into action from the start of next season, teams would be required to develop larger fuel tanks to cater for - potentially - double the amount of fuel at the start of races, thus allowing for cost cuts in the transportation of pit lane equipment for fuel stops, which teams believe does not spice up the action during races.
However, after the FIA and FOTA had seemingly found a compromise to declare a cocktail of 2010 rule modifications null and void (including a €45m budget cap) the refuelling issue is yet to be fully examined.
"There will be a few amendments to the rules that need to be agreed unanimously," a FOTA source told Autosport. "This will be about refuelling and a few other items and should be completed within the next few weeks."
